The JSIS P.E. Weebly site will remain accessible to students & families throughout the summer. New lessons will not be posted, but you will be able to access lessons and resources that have already been posted during distance learning.
Summer Ironman Challenge
Are you looking for an extra activity challenge this summer? An Ironman is a multi-sport contest where participants swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and run 26.2 miles ALL IN A ROW! Wow!
Never fear though! The Summer Ironman Challenge lets you try to complete the distance for each event over the whole summer. Choose to participate in one event (feet, wheels, or water), or challenge yourself to do all 3! See the "Instructions" document for more information on how to participate. Use the "Tracking Sheet" (PDF or pptx options) to log your feet, wheels, and water distances. I wish you all a fantastic summer full of sun, activity, relaxing, and joy!! I will miss all of my JSIS students and families and am looking forward to seeing you all in the fall! - Ms. H

This week I am trying out something new! Below you will find a picture and a link to my Virtual Classroom. Click on the link so you can explore all of the activities in the JSIS gym. View my Virtual Classroom in "Presentation Mode" - while in google slides click "view" then "present". Pick out two activities to participate in this week. When you are done exploring, click on Ms.H (me!) to bring you back to this site. Leave me a message below letting me know what your favorite activity was!

Activity #2 - Walking & Wheels Safety
Did you find the walking scavenger hunt in Ms. H's Virtual Classroom? When walking in the neighborhood it's important to cross streets safely.
Watch this video with your family at home. After the video, take a walk in your neighborhood.
|
|
All of our neighborhoods look different! When we are out walking and rolling in the neighborhood we cross at many different types of intersections. It's important to understand the different parts of an intersection so we can cross safely.
Watch this video with your family at home. After the video, walk or roll around your neighborhood and find an interesting intersection to draw. Use the PDF sheet below to identify the different parts of the intersection.

Week of May 18th-22nd
While we've been at home, we may not have had access to our favorite activities or P.E. equipment to use. For me, I miss being able to teach golf and participate in a mini golf course at school!
This week, I am challenging you to make your own activity or P.E. equipment at home! Think about what you have inside your house that might be able to be reused for an activity or P.E. equipment. This is a good opportunity to give a recycled item a second life! Try to make 1 piece of throwing & catching equipment, or 1 piece of fine motor skills equipment. Look at the sections and slides below for some ideas on how you can make your own equipment at home. Also, watch my video to the right to see how I made my own golf club and turned my house into a mini golf course! |

Week of May 11th-15th
This week, we are going to focus on using our creative brains to make our own Tabata workout. Remember: Tabatas are short workouts (only 4 minutes!). During the "work" time of a Tabata workout, we want to work as hard as we can, for the whole time.
See the slides to the right for ideas on what you can include in your Tabata Workout. I have also created a video showing you the Stuffed Animal Tabata I made. This week, your goal is to create your own Tabata and try it with your family. Use the "Tabata" worksheet to help you plan out your Tabata with your family. No printer? That's okay! Create your own "Tabata" worksheet with blank paper and markers. Also, try out some of the other activities I've suggested! |

|
If you need help understanding how to complete the lesson, watch this video I created. Participate in my Tabata at the end of the video! I am using a childhood stuffed animal, Mr. Iguana, in the video! A PDF of my Tabata is also included below.
If you have additional questions, please use the contact form below to send me a message! I miss you all! - Ms. H

Week of May 4th-8th
This week we are focusing on flexibility: the ability of our muscles and joints to move through full range of motion. When we are working on our flexibility we often have to think about our balance. We are balanced when our body is steady & still.
This week, your goal is to balance your body to create 5 different shapes. Look at the pictures to the right to see how you can make shapes with your body. Notice how many ways there is to make a triangle! Use the "Shapes Yoga Flexibility" worksheet to help plan HOW you will balance your body to make shapes. No printer? That's okay! Create your own "Shapes Yoga Flexibility" worksheet with blank paper and markers. Also, try out some of the other activities I've suggested! Families - When your kiddo is participating in activities this week, you can help them connect their learning by asking these questions:

Week of April 27th-May 1st
This week we are focusing on Muscular Strength and Muscular Endurance. Both of these components of fitness help us build strong muscles. Remember: muscles move our bones, which helps us to participate in activities! Push-up Tic Tac Toe & Plank Hockey can be played to help show the difference between muscular strength & muscular endurance - OR see the definitions to the right.
This week, your goal is to participate in the "MS and ME Choice Board" at least 3 times. Each day you will pick 1 muscular strength exercise and 1 muscular endurance exercise to complete. At the end of the week hopefully you will also be able to explain the difference between muscular strength & muscular endurance, and/or show the difference using an exercise from each. No printer? That's okay! Create your own choice board with blank paper and markers. Also, try out some of the other activities I've suggested! Families - If your kiddo is stuck during the MS and ME Choice Board, use these questions to help:

Week of April 20th-24th
This week we will be participating in activities to help improve our cardio-respiratory endurance. Remember: our heart is a muscle. When we participate in activities that raise our heart rate, our heart gets better at its job - pumping blood and oxygen to our working muscles.
In order to help our heart grow stronger we want to participate at a level 4 intensity during some activities. Look at the pictures of the intensity levels to remind yourself what intensity level 4 might feel like. This week, your goal is to participate in 3 activities, and work in intensity level 4. Use the worksheet "K-2 CRE Worksheet" to track your activities and intensity level. No printer? That's okay! Create your own with blank paper and markers. Try out some of the activities I've suggested, or choose your own! Week of April 13th-17th (spring break)
Looking to keep your kiddo active over break? Encourage them to keep an Activity Log. Suggestions for starting K-2 students on an activity log are located in the "Activity Calendars & Logs" tab, within the "Activity Logs" page. Review each activity log with your kiddo, and discuss which one they like. Print out the activity log and have your kiddo record their daily activity. Don't have access to a printer? Students can make their own activity log using a blank piece of paper and pens.
Looking for other activities? Review past activity games, outdoor play ideas, and workout videos on the P.E. eLearning Google Document. Access the document here for the complete list of activities:
